Screening and Brief Intervention
The evidence of success for screening and brief intervention for adults with unhealthy alcohol use strongly supports the value of these practices for reducing use, particularly among those without dependence.  The United States Preventive Services Task Force has endorsed the intervention as an evidence-based practice, as has the National Quality Forum.  The Washington Circle is taking a staged approach to the development, specification and testing of a screening measure to capture unhealthy alcohol use among adults, with subsequent efforts to concentrate on brief intervention services among adults, screening and brief intervention in adolescents and screening and brief intervention for other drug use in adults and adolescents (click here for introductory material on screening, here for discussion of conceptualization and measure specification.)
